About Smoky Mountain Storytellers Association (SMSA)
Smoky Mountain Storytellers are an association of people who love telling and listening to stories. Our story interests are varied, whether they be mountain lore or fairy tales, stories from personal experience or the far side of the moon, from the traditional to the original. We welcome a diversity of genres and tellers. Most of our current members live in the central East Tennessee area, with some living in Upper East Tennessee, others in the Cleveland-Chattanooga area, and others in Monterey.
Over the course of a year, SMSA organizes storytelling events, indoor and outdoor; participates in events arranged by others; and offers instructional workshops. Please see our Events page for descriptions. Moreover, our members would be pleased to perform for your event, school class, organizational meeting, etc. See the SMSA Storytellers page for information about our members.
We welcome new members. Please do come by and get acquainted with us at events and regular meetings.
SMSA meetings are held at 3:00 PM on the third Sunday of most months, at the Asbury Place Clubhouse, Sevierville Road (Hwy. 411), Maryville, Tennessee. At 2:00 PM, prior to the meeting, we tell stories in the Chapel of the Assisted Living Building at Asbury Place. Exceptions: in June, we meet on the fourth Sunday. In July and December we have a picnic and holiday party, respectively, which is open to members and guests. In November, we are busy with Tellebrations and typically do not have a regular meeting. (There are detailed directions to Asbury on the Contact page.)
SMSA members are interested in continually improving our skills and assisting each other to do so. To this end, we have an informal coaching session each month.
